High Performance Plastics.

Besides general plastics that the company offers, Swees Engineering also carries a range of High Performance Plastics to cater different market segments in various industries. This range of products usually exhibit higher tolerances to temperature and chemicals, with greater strength and stiffness needed in different applications.

PI

PI (PolyImide) or more commonly called Vespel, offers a combination of properties that allows them to excel in applications requiring low wear and long life in harsh environments. Having various grades, these materials have exceptional physical and mechanical properties. It combines heat resistance, lubricity, dimensional stability, chemical resistance, and creep resistance. Vespel is one of the highest performing engineering plastics currently available and can operate continuously from cryogenic temperatures to 288°C, with excursions to 482°C.

* Stock Shapes available: Vespel Sheets, Vespel Rods
* Grades available: Vespel SP-1, SP-21, SP-22, SP-211, SP-3

PEEK

PEEK (PolyEther Ether Ketone) is a semi-crystalline thermoplastic with excellent mechanical and chemical resistance properties that are retained to high temperatures (+260°C). The property profile of Peek makes it an ideal material for applications where an excellent performance under extreme conditions of temperature, chemical attack, high energy radiation, electrical duty etc. is required.

* Stock Shapes available: PEEK Sheets, PEEK Rods
* Grades available: PEEK, PEEK-30%GF,
PEEK-30%CF, PEEK Bearing Grade

PVDF

PVDF (PolyVinyliDene Fluoride) is a semi-crystalline engineering thermoplastic with very good chemical resistance, excellent machinability and versatility of application. The temperature ranges from -30°C to +150°C. PVDF shows a high resistance to chlorine, bromine and high-energy radiation. It is also used generally in applications requiring the highest purity, strength, and resistance to solvents, acids, bases, heat and low smoke generation during a fire event.

* Stock Shapes available: PVDF Sheets, PVDF Rods
* Grades available: PVDF, PVDF-ELS

PAI

PAI (PolyAmide-Imide) or more commonly called Torlon, is a high strength plastic with the highest stiffness of any thermoplastic up to 275°C. It has outstanding resistance to wear, creep, and chemicals (including strong acids and most organics), and is ideally suited for severe service environments.

* Stock Shapes available: Torlon Sheets, Torlon Rods
* Grades available: Torlon 4203, 4301, 5030, 5530

PEI

PEI (PolyEtherImide) or more commonly called Ultem, is an amorphous, amber-to-transparent thermoplastic with characteristics similar to the related plastic PEEK. Relative to PEEK, PEI is lower in impact strength, but has a higher use temperature (operating temperature up to +170°C). This advanced polymer shows a combination of outstanding thermal, mechanical and electrical properties, together with very low flammability and low levels of smoke evolution during combustion.

* Stock Shapes available: PEI Sheets, PEI Rods
* Grades available: PEI-1000, PEI-2300, PEI-ELS, PEI Medical Grade

PPS

PPS (PolyPhenylene Sulfide) is an engineering plastic, a high-performance thermoplastic. PPS can be molded, extruded, or machined to high tolerances. In its pure solid form, it may be opaque white to light tan in color. Maximum service temperature is 218°C. PPS has not been found to dissolve in any solvent at temperatures below about 200°C. PPS is one of the most important high temperature thermoplastic polymers because it exhibits a number of desirable properties. These properties include resistance to head, acids and alkalies, and to mildew, to bleaches, aging, sunlight, and abrasion.

* Stock Shapes available: PPS Sheets, PPS Rods
* Grades available: PPS-40%GF, PPS Medical Grade

RULON

Rulon has a practically universal chemical inertness. The Rulon family of materials combines high compressive strength, a low coefficient of friction, excellent abrasion and corrosion resistance running without lubrication. Of the chemicals encountered in commercial practice, only molten sodium and fluorine, at elevated temperatures and pressures, show any signs of attack. They are also are used in bearing and seal applications at temperatures from -400°F to 500°F with and without supplemental lubricants.

* Stock Shapes available: Rulon Sheets, Rulon Rods
* Grades available: Rulon LR, J, K
